Teacher Training College Stuttgart at TDI International School Sonipat in November 2019 during the last non-virtual encounter.
Teacher Training College Stuttgart, Germany and TDI International School, Sonipat, India, take teaching German as a foreign language to new dimensions in times of Covid-19.
When face-to-face learning was suspended in mid-March due to COVID-19, theeducation sector itself started to develop its online teaching system and has come up with innovative and mind-boggling ideas in order to avoid disruption in education and learning.
Propelled by the initiative of our long-term friend and exchange coordinator Studiendirektorin Angelika Hoff, M.A.,Teacher Trainer of English as a Foreign Language at Teacher Training College Stuttgart, Germany(Seminar fürAus- und Fortbildung der LehrkräfteanGymnasien), students of TDI International School, Sonipat, Haryana, have received the wonderful opportunity of being taughtthe German language by young and motivated native German trainee teachers through online video conferences.
In summer 2020 Angelika Hoff and about 20 trainee teachers have conducted online live and interactive German classes with our students and thus promoted acceptance and understanding of an array of different cultural perspectives by offering excellent insights into Germany and its culture. It was an overwhelming once in a lifetime experience for our Indian students.
In return for their efforts the German teacher trainees have been provided with certificates from our institution and their efforts have also beenofficially recognisedby the German Education MinistryZSL (ZentrumfürSchulqualität und Lehrerbildung),so that the online classes at TDI International School have become an integral part of German teacher training.TDI International School is already looking forward to the next generation of young motivated teachers from Teacher Training College Stuttgart, who will start teaching their German classes in March 2021.
Moreover, in the academic year 2020/2021 a virtual teacher exchange, in which 11 teacher trainees from Teacher Training College Stuttgart will be paired up with 11 teachers from TDI International Schooland virtually invite each other to their lessons, will take place. By organizing Indian exchange programmes since 2009 Teacher Training College Stuttgart has played a key role in motivating young teachers to start their own Indian exchange once they have completed their training, thus promoting Indo-German friendship all over the state of Baden-Wuerttembergthrough many newlyestablished student exchange programmes in Germany’s Southwest.
